THE WOUNDS OF ST. PADRE PIO

Ordained a priest in 1910, the five wounds of Our Lord became visible on Padre Pio's body eight years later, thereby making him the first stigmatized priest in the history of the Church. For the next 50 years, until his death in 1968, Padre Pio passed his life in ineffable sufferings but with moments of great joy from his union with God.

Padre Pio was born on May 25, 1887. He was baptised Francis. Even as a child he had extraordinary gifts. While his brothers and sisters played, he prayed. When he was a teenager he received a present of chestnuts wrapped in a bag. He returned the bag to the sender of the gifts, a woman. The woman saved the bag, she thought it might be a future relic. This woman was in her barn when a spark ignited powder and there was a terrible explosion. She was in great pain, and bleeding from a serious wound. She remembered the bag and placed it to herself. She was instantly cured. This was the first miracle God performed through Padre Pio, he was 13 years old. At the age of 15 Padre Pio entered the Capuchins despite the fact that he was in bad health. One day he heard a voice from the tabernacle: "You will be scourged, crown with thorns and nailed to the cross like St.Francis."

This powerful Novena was recited every day by Padre Pio.

I. O my Jesus, You said "verily I say to You, ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you", behold I knock, I seek and I ask for the grace of... (your request here) "Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the begining, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Sacred Heart of Jesus I put all my trust in Thee.

II. O my Jesus, You said, "verily I say to You, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you", behold in your name I ask the Father for the grace of...

III. O my Jesus, You said, "verily I say to You, heaven and earth shall pass away but My words shall not pass away", behold I encouraged by your infallible words, now ask for the grace of...

O sacred Heart of Jesus, to whom one thing alone is impossible, namely, not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of Thee through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your and our tender Mother.

Salve Regina Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.

Prayer for the Intercession of
St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Dear God, You generously blessed Your servant, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, with the gifts of the Spirit. You marked his body with the five wounds of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness to the saving Passion and Death of Your Son. Endowed with the gift of discernment, St. Pio labored endlessly in the confessional for the salvation of souls. With reverence and intense devotion in the celebration of Mass, he invited countless men and women to a greater union with Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

Through the intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, I confidently beseech You to grant me the grace of (here state your petition). Amen.

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Quotes:

"I will stand at the gates of Heaven but
will not go through them until all my
spiritual children have entered."
- Promise of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

"Prayer is the best weapon we possess,
the key that opens the heart of God."
— Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

When asked if the stigmata
(medically unexplained deep bleeding
wounds in the hands, feet and side)
were painful, Padre Pio replied,

"Do you think that the Lord gave
them to me for a decoration?"
