Lamb Of God
Cross of Christ we glory, because
we regard it as a matchless exhibition of
the attributes of God. We see there the
love of God, desiring a way by which He
might save mankind, aided by His wisdom,
so that a plan is perfected by which the
deed can be done without violation of
truth and justice. In the Cross we see
a strange conjuntion of what once appeared
to be opposition qualities, justice and
mercy. We see how God is supremely just;
as just as if He had no mercy, and yet
infinitely merciful in the gift of His Son.
Mercy and justice, in fact, become counsel
upon the same side, and irresistibly plead
for the acquittal of the believing sinner.
We can never tell which of the attributes
of God shines most glorious in the
sacrifice of; they each one find a
glorious high throne in the person and
work of the Lamb of God, that taketh away
the sin of the world. Since it has become,
as it were, the disc which reflects the
character and perfections of God, it is
meant that we should glory in the
Cross of Christ, and none shall stay us
of our boasting.
- Spurgeon

If thou wouldst follow Me upon the way,
Take up My cross where I have laid it down.
Cast off they life of luxury and ease,
Take to thy heart My hyssop and My crown.
Tread where I trod, each step a thing of pain,
Meeting nor help nor succor on the road.
Strenghten thine ears to listen to the gibes
Flung at thee as thou fallest 'neath thy load.
Thy friends will be the sad at heart and poor,
Those who are burdened with a life of shame,
Those sufferers who are the halt and blind,
Those whom Beauty is a distant name.
Take up My cross where I have laid it down,
My mantle wrap about thee and My pain,
Give of My love to all thy fellow-men,
This being done, I'll not have died in vain!
Hesper Le Gallienne

The everlasting God has in His wisdom forseen
from eternity the cross that He now presents
to you as a gift from His inmost Heart. This
cross He now sends you, He has considered
with His all-knowing eyes, understood with
His Divine mind, tested with His wise justice,
warmed with loving arms and weighed with
His own hands to see that it be not one inch
too large and not one ounce to heavy for you.
He has blessed it with His holy Name,
anointed it with His grace, perfumed it with
His consolation, taken one last glance at you
and your courage, and then sent it to you
from heaven, a special greeting from God to you,
an alms of the all merciful love of God.
St. Francis de Sales
